Adding Position Markers to the Neck I have a small ½” aluminum angle that I use to mark off the edge of the fretboard and position these markers off to the side, which I prefer. I eyeball the position along the line I created and using an awl to mark each spot. I use a ¼” forstner bit to drill the holes for the markers, and glue in some plugs I made earlier out of some rosewood.
