That’ll do Oppy, that’ll do. 🥹 NASA’s Opportunity rover landed on Mars in 2004. The mission was only supposed to last 90 days but Opportunity kept going surviving harsh terrain and traveling 45.16 kilometers across the Red Planet. In June 2018, a global dust storm darkened the sky and the solar-powered rover fell silent. For months, engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory called out… and heard nothing back. In the very first minutes of January 25th, 2004 (U.S. eastern time) Mars Exploration Rover-B (MER-B), also known as Opportunity landed on the surface of Mars in a place known as Meridiani Planum. Opportunity had launched to Mars in July the previous summer. (Sister ship, MER-A/Spirit, had landed at Gusev Crater on January 4.)
