Yesterday, 1 March 2026, Mount Marapi (Sumatra) sent an ash column between 5 and 7 kilometres into the sky above West Sumatra. Minor pyroclastic flows accompanied the eruption, travelling short distances down the flanks before dissipating. It was not an isolated event.
